A montage of pictures, with the main image showing Chris being presented with his long service award and signed and framed Walsall FC football shirt, with many of his colleagues standing behind him, smiling and looking towards the camera. This image is then overlaid with a close up of a large chocolate cake with a cake topper proclaiming ‘legend since 2005’ and surrounded by silver, gold and black ‘20’ confetti. Another image shows a close up of Chris’ Long Service Award – a glass rectangular block sitting in a blue velvet inlay box with the words ‘Chris Brown. 20 Years of Service. Mercian Labels. January 2025’ engraved on it – all with the words ‘20 Years Service’ written large on the far right hand side.

Celebrating 20 Years of Service

4th February 2025 Mark Prior 0 Comments

It’s celebration time again at Mercian Labels as the whole team gathered together to celebrate and recognise our colleague Chris Brown’s fantastic 20 Years of Service with the company.

Having originally joined as a despatcher before training as a flexographic printer and hot foiler, Chris had a brief period away and then rejoined us in January 2005, when we were a much smaller team operating from our previous site on the A5 (Watling Street) in Cannock.

Excelling on our Wood Tackyboy 2 colour press and a Mark Andy 910 water based flexo machine, Chris soon moved on to train as one of our very first digital print specialists when we adopted the then relatively new technology in 2006.

Having honed his digital skills to perfection, Chris was heavily involved in the planning and execution of our move to our current premises in 2014, and was then one of the first to train on and master the use of our ground breaking Xeikon CX3 digital press, which was at the time (in 2015) the first of its kind in the World.

Chris’ digital expertise came into its own once again when he was instrumental in setting the standards for our production of blood labels, and he was also a key part of our world first automation project in 2022, where his knowledge and expertise were so valuable during the installation and embedding of the UK’s first SCREEN UV digital inkjet press as part of that wider, multi-award winning project.

Since then, Chris has stepped up once again to provide cover for a time in the role of a Technical Sales Administrator (TSA), before returning to his passion and forte as Digital Print Lead, where he will no doubt be further developing his skills and expertise for many years to come, as this technology and related automations are further embedded across the business.

To celebrate Chris’ many achievements his colleagues joined him for a celebratory lunch, before he was presented with his long service award, a gift voucher towards his holiday and a signed and framed Walsall FC football shirt.

Congratulations and Thank You Chris for your fantastic service with us. We look forward to many more successful years with you as a driving force within the digital world.
